This article is specific to Kinesis Panel email invitation templates. For email invitations in Kinesis Survey, see Survey Invitations.
Invitation Templates is your library of emails that can be used in Panel Email Campaigns across the installation. Multiple invitation types are available for use, depending on how your panelists wish to be contacted. Before invites can be sent within Project Mode, at least one invitation template must be created within Panel Mode.
1: Invitation Types
The following invitation types are available:
1.1: New Text Template
This template is for plain text invites. Any HTML entered in this email will be displayed as text, and not formatted as it would look in a browser. This can be useful if you are attempting to assure the email is not blocked by a corporate spam filter.
1.2: New HTML Template
In this template, you can create a new template that allows HTML. While this may have a raised chance of being blocked, it also has a higher response rate from consumer groups. It also allows you to insert images that you may want to appear.
1.3: New SMS Template
This template allows you to create an SMS invitation for use with cellular telephones. SMS invitations have a restriction of 120 characters allowed in the message. Note that SMS does not offer the same response tracking available for email invitations. SMS messaging is only available within the United States and requires both the mobile number and the mobile carrier to be uploaded for each panelist.
1.4: HTML Bulk Email Template
This template is to send bulk email for communicating with your panelists. It is not technically an invitation, as it does not contain a survey link.
2: Creating a New Invitation Template
When creating any of the available invitation types, general information is entered on the first tab. Any available language translations for the invitation text can then by added from the remaining tabs. Any content entered for the invitation template can always be edited within project mode before actually sending out invites.
- The intent of the email.
- Invitation name
- Name of the invitation. Will not be seen by panelists.
- Sender name
- The sender's name displayed on the outgoing email as seen by panelists. Not available for SMS invitation templates.
- Sender email
- The sender's email address displayed with the outgoing email as seen by panelist. Not available for SMS invitation templates.
3: Piping Datapoints Into Invitation Text
The following piping variables are required for all invitation templates:
- %LINK% or %LINKURL% (for just the plain URL)
- Will be replaced with the panelist's unique survey access link.
- %OPTOUTLINK% or %OPTOUTURL%
- Will provide a link allowing panelist to unsubscribe from the panel and future email contact.
- %OPTOUTREMINDERLINK% or %OPTOUTREMINDERURL%
- Will provide a link allowing panelist to unsubscribe from a single study
Panelist information can be piped into the invitation text using a few methods.
- Panelist email, identifiers or points can be piped with the following syntax:
- Any datapoint can be piped into the invitation text using the syntax
- replacing "Qlabel" with the actual datapoint label. For example, "Hello ~Qname~".
- For system fields, you can pipe from them directly using the syntax, %systemfield%, replacing "systemfield" with the system field name. Note, these could also be piped from the datapoint label mapped to the system field using the first method above. See below for a full list of available system field piping variables:
4: Adding a Tracking Pixel to your Email
To monitor open rates in the Campaign Manager, you will need to add a tracking pixel to your invitation template. Tracking pixels are inserted automatically by using:
5: CAN-SPAM Compliancy
All email invitations sent through the panel campaign management system are required to follow the guidelines defined by the CAN-SPAM Act. This includes providing a physical contact address as well as a clear method for opting out of future emails.
6: Previewing your Invitation Template
This button shows a preview of the template that you have created just as it should show up in the email the panelist will receive. From here you can select the language in which it will be viewed. In the top right corner you will see the spam score for this email. If this score is greater than zero, there may be something wrong with the content of the email. To find out why your message got a spam score, move your mouse over the number and a list of problems that were detected will be shown in a tool tip window.
Common causes for high spam scores are:
- Suspicious words often used by spammers (eg.: "dollar", "discount", "loan" etc.)
- Suspicious phrases
- Suspicious URLs that are listed on spam trackers
7: Download template
This button is used to download the HTML template. After you have chosen this option, a popup will ask you where you would like to save the downloaded zip file. The zip file will contain the HTML file of each language and all associated files.
